Crowns & Bridges
Coast Dental offers a number of options to restore teeth that have been damaged or lost. Your dentist can determine which ones best meet your needs.
Crowns
A crown is a dental restoration that covers an existing tooth and improves the appearance of your smile while strengthening the tooth. A crown can:
- restore a tooth
- cover badly shaped or discolored teeth
- attach bridges
- protect fractured teeth
- attach a dental implant
- improve the way your bite fits together
Each crown is custom designed to fit your mouth. Your dentist will consider many factors when prescribing the best option for you. Factors can include the location of the crown, whether or not you have periodontal disease or metal sensitivity, and your bite. Aesthetics and durability may also be considerations.
A new crown involves at least two visits to the dentist. During your first visit, decay will be removed and the tooth will be shaped to prepare it for the crown. An impression of your teeth will be made and a temporary crown will be placed in your mouth. During your second visit, the temporary crown will replaced with the permanent crown, which will be adjusted to fit your bite.

Bridges
A bridge is a dental restoration that consists of one or more prosthetic teeth that bridge the gap created by missing teeth. When lost teeth are not replaced, the remaining teeth will shift to fill the empty space and can cause a number of problems. Your dentist may prescribe a bridge to help:
- prevent teeth from drifting out of position
- prevent the loss of more teeth
- restore your smile
- maintain the shape of your jaw line
- alleviate stress on your bite

Dental Implants
Dental implants are a stable and secure surgical option for replacing one or more missing teeth. Your dentist will surgically place metal posts in the bone under your gums. Your bone will gradually grow around the implant and a replacement tooth will be attached to the metal post. Dental implants can also be used to secure a crown or fixed dentures.
