Your Child's First Visit to the Dentist

Childs First Visit

Your Child’s First Teeth

Kids mouth anatomy. It’s a question many parents have: when will my child’s teeth begin to come in?

Your child’s 20 baby teeth will begin to appear usually between six and nine months, although some children have them come in earlier or later. The two lower front teeth tend to come in first, followed by the two upper ones. The first molars come in next, followed by the canines (eyeteeth). Sometimes your baby can experience teething discomfort during this process. If so, let us know and we will advise you as to the best course of action.

Caring For Your Child’s First Teeth

Your infant’s gums and baby teeth should be gently wiped after each feeding with a damp washcloth or gauze pad. Starting at age 2, you should use a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and a thin smear of fluoridated toothpaste to brush your child’s teeth twice each day. You should continue to help brush your child’s teeth until they are 6 years old, or have the dexterity to tie his or her shoelaces.
