Pediatric Dentist

Pediatric Dental Treatments girlJust like you take your child to the pediatrician, it’s also important you take your child to a pediatric dentist. Pediatric dentists are dentists who have completed an additional two years of training in diagnosing and treating infants, children, and teenagers. Our Gainesville pediatric dentist will not only polish your child’s teeth to keep them healthy, but will look for signs of tooth decay, developmental problems, and alignment issues with either the teeth or jaws.

Pediatric Dental Treatments boyBuilding a solid foundation for good dental hygiene includes education, treatment, prevention, proper diet, and developing good habits for brushing and flossing. At our Coast Dental Newberry Square kids dental care office in Gainesville, we are specialists in pediatric dentistry, and work hard to ensure that your child’s initial dental experiences are all positive.

Pediatric Dentistry Information for Parents

Kids mouth anatomyAs a parent, it’s important to understand how your child’s mouth and teeth develop. Prior to birth, your child’s first teeth are formed, but hidden beneath the gums. After birth, and over the next two to three years, these teeth, often called baby teeth, appear. Baby teeth function as placeholders and spacers for your child’s permanent teeth. Even though baby teeth are temporary, they can still develop cavities and infection, which can be painful, just like in adults.

Your child’s initial visit to the dentist should occur shortly after the first baby teeth appear. In fact, both the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that children receive oral health risk assessments every six months, starting at the age of one.

What to Expect During Your Visit

During this initial visit examination, your Coast Dental Newberry Square pediatric dentist team will:

  • Examine your child’s teeth.
  • Review and provide advice on feeding and dietary considerations.
  • Provide instruction on proper dental hygiene techniques.
  • Provide strategies for correcting ineffective habits that might prove detrimental to your child’s dental health.
  • Clean the teeth and discuss any other treatments or procedures that your child may require.

I went to Coastal for the first time ever and they are super nice people. They made sure it was safe for me to do any x rays, since I am currently pregnant. They speak Spanish too, so if English isn’t your preferred language they got you. They took care of me very well and work with me, and showed me that I was elegible for a payment plan which is so much easier for me. But definitely recommend 💯

I am a first-time patient of Coast Dental, I moved here from a different state, and after using one dentist's office my entire life I found myself needing a general cleaning. I live about 30 minutes away from this office but, scheduled my appointments at this location due to the office in my city being booked up for many months in advance. The first exam will just be a general exam and x-rays, so if you are a first-time patient like myself be prepared to come back another day for the cleaning. My first appointment went somewhat smoothly, the hygienist and dental assistant were both very nice and tried their best to keep everything running smoothly as there was no doctor in that location, you only spoke to one virtually and they reviewed the charts and X-rays. I spent a good amount of time waiting for the hygienist after my X-rays were completed due to technology issues and a patient before me giving them a hard time. I don't have dental insurance so I paid out of pocket for everything, it was about $350 for the X-rays and exam for my first visit. On my next visit a few days later for my prophy cleaning it was roughly $160 for the cleaning plus another $70 for the concentrated fluoride varnish. Overall I was happy with my visit here, however, I definitely recommend having dental insurance.

Absolutely wonder experience at the dentist. Dentist Erika (can't remember her last name) but she is so sweet and kind. She took the time to educate me every visit and helped me with choosing the proper treatment plan to help me improve my dental health. She also helped me with figuring out my financial plan to afford the treatment. She speaks Spanish and I highly recommend her services.
