Tooth Extraction

At Coast Dental Newberry Square, we understand the importance of maintaining your oral health and ensuring the longevity of your teeth. While our goal is to help restore and preserve your natural teeth, there are certain situations where a tooth extraction may be necessary. Rest assured, tooth extraction is a common and routine procedure that we can perform with expertise and care.

There are several reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted. Some of these include:

  • Severely broken tooth
  • Severely decayed tooth
  • Retained baby tooth
  • Crowding/Orthodontia
  • Impacted wisdom tooth
  • Advanced periodontal disease

When you come in for your tooth extraction appointment in Gainesville, FL, our dentist will begin by taking an x–ray to assess the position of the tooth roots and the condition of the surrounding bone. We will also review your drug and medical history to ensure that you are in good health for the tooth extraction procedure in Gainesville. During this time, we will discuss your options for anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the extraction process.

In many cases, a local anesthetic will be sufficient to numb the tooth, surrounding bone, and gum tissue during the tooth extraction in Gainesville. Additional sedatives such as oral sedatives, nitrous oxide, or intravenous conscious sedation may also be used for multiple or complicated extractions. These sedation methods will keep you comfortable during the tooth extraction procedure.

During the tooth extraction in Gainesville, our dentist will take steps to preserve the surrounding bone and may perform a bone graft if necessary, especially if the extraction site will be filled with a dental implant in the future.

After the tooth has been extracted, our dental team will cover the empty socket with sterile gauze and apply gentle pressure to control any bleeding. In some cases, small sutures may be used. Our dentist may recommend taking an anti–inflammatory drug like ibuprofen to alleviate any mild discomfort after the tooth extraction in Gainesville. They might also prescribe an antibiotic to prevent infection. You can apply ice packs to the outside of your jaw and stick to softer foods until the area has healed. Within a few days, your mouth should feel normal again.

To schedule your tooth extraction appointment in Gainesville, please call us at (352) 332-4180. Our team is here to provide you with personalized care and ensure your comfort throughout the tooth extraction process. We look forward to assisting you in maintaining your oral health.

I went to Coastal for the first time ever and they are super nice people. They made sure it was safe for me to do any x rays, since I am currently pregnant. They speak Spanish too, so if English isn’t your preferred language they got you. They took care of me very well and work with me, and showed me that I was elegible for a payment plan which is so much easier for me. But definitely recommend 💯

I am a first-time patient of Coast Dental, I moved here from a different state, and after using one dentist's office my entire life I found myself needing a general cleaning. I live about 30 minutes away from this office but, scheduled my appointments at this location due to the office in my city being booked up for many months in advance. The first exam will just be a general exam and x-rays, so if you are a first-time patient like myself be prepared to come back another day for the cleaning. My first appointment went somewhat smoothly, the hygienist and dental assistant were both very nice and tried their best to keep everything running smoothly as there was no doctor in that location, you only spoke to one virtually and they reviewed the charts and X-rays. I spent a good amount of time waiting for the hygienist after my X-rays were completed due to technology issues and a patient before me giving them a hard time. I don't have dental insurance so I paid out of pocket for everything, it was about $350 for the X-rays and exam for my first visit. On my next visit a few days later for my prophy cleaning it was roughly $160 for the cleaning plus another $70 for the concentrated fluoride varnish. Overall I was happy with my visit here, however, I definitely recommend having dental insurance.

Absolutely wonder experience at the dentist. Dentist Erika (can't remember her last name) but she is so sweet and kind. She took the time to educate me every visit and helped me with choosing the proper treatment plan to help me improve my dental health. She also helped me with figuring out my financial plan to afford the treatment. She speaks Spanish and I highly recommend her services.
