This week we’re talking about SARS-CoV-2 and the mouth. You guys, a new research study that came out of the National Institute of Health is now indicating that scientists are finding evidence that SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for causing COVID-19 has been found to infect the mouth’s cells.

This week’s episode is a continuous episode in which we are going to be discussing anatomical considerations of the periodontium. In previous weeks, we talked about the gingiva and more specifically, the attached gingiva. Today, we’re going to talk about the interdental gingiva or the interdental papilla.

Today’s episode is walking us through the conversation around oral anatomy and specifically today we’re going to be talking about our amazing periodontal ligament.

Today’s episode continues the conversation around oral anatomy and today, I am thrilled to discuss the conversation around the dentogingival unit. Now, I know what you’re thinking …really Sanders? We’re talking about the dentogingival unit? Yes, we are and let me tell you why.

Whoo, today we’re going to focus on the attached gingiva and this is an important gingiva for us to take a look at for many reasons, it’s called attached not because it’s not single, not on dating apps, but rather because it’s not movable. It is attached, firmly bound into the bone and cementum by connective tissue fibers and it’s important to note that attached gingiva is able to withstand the forces from toothbrushing and chewing.

This week, we are continuing the anatomy conversation, and this time we are moving into discussing the alveolar process. The next two episodes, we’ll talk about the different parts of the alveolar process, but to begin, we understand the alveolar process itself constitutes the part of the maxilla and the mandible that form as well as support the sockets of the teeth, also known as the alveoli.
