Gum Disease

Did you know that gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, affects half of American adults? This condition is prevalent in Wesley Chapel, FL and is caused by bacteria that attack the tissues surrounding the teeth. The initial stage of gum disease is called gingivitis, which is reversible with proper treatment.

If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, leading to bone loss around the teeth. As the bone tissue deteriorates, the gums detach from the teeth, forming pockets that create an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive. Without intervention, the infection worsens, causing loose teeth that may eventually fall out. In fact, periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults over 35 years old in Wesley Chapel.

It’s important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of gum disease in Wesley Chapel. Some people may not experience any symptoms until the disease has reached an advanced stage. However, there are several indications to watch out for:

  • Bleeding gums: If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, it is a warning sign of gum disease. It’s crucial to seek dental care promptly in Wesley Chapel.
  • Bad breath: Plaque buildup between the teeth can result in bacteria that produce sulfur compounds, leading to persistent bad breath.
  • Redness, puffiness, or swelling of the gums: Inflammation is typically an early visible sign of infection, and our Wesley Chapel dental experts can provide the necessary treatment.
  • Receding gums: If you notice that your teeth appear longer than before, it may be due to gum tissue recession, which exposes the tooth roots.
  • Sensitivity: Gum recession can cause sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. Our dental team in Wesley Chapel can help alleviate this discomfort.
  • Loose teeth: As gum disease progresses and leads to bone loss, the teeth can become loose Wesley Chapel residents can rely on our dental professionals for appropriate treatment.

Fortunately, gum disease in Wesley Chapel can be managed, although it cannot be fully reversed once it has advanced beyond gingivitis. Dentists in Wesley Chapel, FL have various techniques to control and prevent further progression of the disease. Scaling, root planing, or debridement are cleaning techniques that remove plaque and bacteria beneath the gum line. In some cases, antibiotics or laser therapy may be recommended to eliminate the infection. Your general dentist may also refer you to a periodontist, a gum specialist, to explore surgical or non-surgical treatment options.

To prevent gum disease in Wesley Chapel, it is essential to maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing diligently every day. Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings every 3 to 6 months are crucial for maintaining periodontal health. These appointments allow our team to reach areas that may be difficult to clean with a toothbrush and floss alone.

If you suspect gum disease and reside in Wesley Chapel, it is important to seek clinical treatment to address the infection. Contact Coast Dental Wesley Chapel today at (813) 973-1837 to schedule an appointment with our experienced team of dentists in Wesley Chapel.

I always have a great experience at Coast Dental Wesley Chapel. Everyone is so kind, courteous and accommodating. My dental hygienist whose name I cannot remember is always so gentle when doing my cleaning and taking x-rays. I wish I could remember his name. I would highly recommend Coast Dental in Wesley Chapel

What an experience, I went to coast dental since it had been atleast to admit two years since Covid to ever step into a dental office. I made an appointment and spoke asking for a cleaning. They said yes they can do it the same day. The day of my appointment I was greeted, very nicely welcome ladies in the front and waited until my turn. I went into the room, they presented my a treatment plan and were breaking it down to what my insurance cover and what doesn’t. Now, super nice young dental assistances. Im afraid of the dentist but the staff Dr Ellorin was amazing Mr version and and Miss Esperanza who also spoke spanish or english which was more comfrorting made me feel comfortable, took my X-rays and Dr. Ellorin diagnosis and ensured and had been told i've had a build a bit of plaque and watch a few teeth, its been a few year but i got an all clear. I actually floss and brush to avoid the dentist lol and my gums don't bleed except the back cause those are the difficult places to reach. mr June the hygienist was super nice and explained the difference of cleaning i ended up needing a deep cleaning not just a regular. yes the cost was costly but in its worth for the long run so i highly suggest this team !

First time here and what a very pleasant experience, all the staff did a great job with me and my wife. Stephanie, Esperanza, Dr. Kevin and Yuang were so professionals. They did everything in their hands to understand all our process (we come from another dental clinic for more than 4 years), gave us options and explained all steps. These people LISTEN!
