Gum Disease

Did you know that gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, affects half of American adults? This condition is prevalent in Apopka, FL and is caused by bacteria that attack the tissues surrounding the teeth. The initial stage of gum disease is called gingivitis, which is reversible with proper treatment.

If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, leading to bone loss around the teeth. As the bone tissue deteriorates, the gums detach from the teeth, forming pockets that create an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive. Without intervention, the infection worsens, causing loose teeth that may eventually fall out. In fact, periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults over 35 years old in Apopka.

It’s important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of gum disease in Apopka. Some people may not experience any symptoms until the disease has reached an advanced stage. However, there are several indications to watch out for:

  • Bleeding gums: If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, it is a warning sign of gum disease. It’s crucial to seek dental care promptly in Apopka.
  • Bad breath: Plaque buildup between the teeth can result in bacteria that produce sulfur compounds, leading to persistent bad breath.
  • Redness, puffiness, or swelling of the gums: Inflammation is typically an early visible sign of infection, and our Apopka dental experts can provide the necessary treatment.
  • Receding gums: If you notice that your teeth appear longer than before, it may be due to gum tissue recession, which exposes the tooth roots.
  • Sensitivity: Gum recession can cause sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. Our dental team in Apopka can help alleviate this discomfort.
  • Loose teeth: As gum disease progresses and leads to bone loss, the teeth can become loose Apopka residents can rely on our dental professionals for appropriate treatment.

Fortunately, gum disease in Apopka can be managed, although it cannot be fully reversed once it has advanced beyond gingivitis. Dentists in Apopka, FL have various techniques to control and prevent further progression of the disease. Scaling, root planing, or debridement are cleaning techniques that remove plaque and bacteria beneath the gum line. In some cases, antibiotics or laser therapy may be recommended to eliminate the infection. Your general dentist may also refer you to a periodontist, a gum specialist, to explore surgical or non-surgical treatment options.

To prevent gum disease in Apopka, it is essential to maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing diligently every day. Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings every 3 to 6 months are crucial for maintaining periodontal health. These appointments allow our team to reach areas that may be difficult to clean with a toothbrush and floss alone.

Impressed by the quality of care and attention I was given here. Recently had to change dentists due to insurance changes and gave this one a shot. Ever since my first appointment they were nothing but friendly and caring. Everything that needed to be done was explained thoroughly. They were able to save me from paying thousands for a gum graft using a different approach to helping my receding teeth. Really happy I found them. Will be a patient for as long as my insurance is in network.

The staff and environment is welcoming. However, the main problem lies in their phone communication system. It appears that the office intentionally avoids picking up direct phone calls, making it incredibly difficult for existing patients to communicate with the staff directly. New patients might not face this issue as appointment scheduling is handled by an external service, but anyone trying to reach out to the office directly is likely to be met with a voicemail, regardless of the time or day. This isn't just my experience; I've observed other patients facing the same frustration and their concerns were dismissed rather dismissively by the staff. It's a disconcerting practice that severely impacts patient experience and trust. I advise anyone visiting to pay close attention to whether the office phones ever ring or if they're always conveniently directed to voicemail. This approach to patient communication is not what one would expect from a healthcare provider and certainly something that needs reconsideration.

Came here for a 3rd opinion so glad I did. I am a 37 year old that still has baby teeth 7 to be exact I was quoted by another corporate dentaot office to do a double crown but the tooth was a baby tooth. I am very satisfied with the work I had done and my pockets are much happier too

I'm always nervous seeing a dentist, but I was impressed with the office from the Front office staff, nurse who took me back to the amazing Dr. Rodriguez. She explained everything she was going to do for me in advance. Dr. Rodriguez and her staff were very patient and professional and made going to the dentist a good experience.
